Man, those are beauties--glad they sound as great as they look. Very cool design too..... Are you using the original crossovers or the new GPA crossovers?

This should put tuning around 45-50 Hz, if 7.3 is net and the sloped wall angle doesn't alter it too much.

What are you using to keep the lower octaves, especially from movies, from over driving them to destruction?

Even worse on mine.......

I measured them long ago and they just barely do the telephone BW, so no highs, no lows and even worse than B0$3 through the mids. Just a 2" paper 'full-range' driver like is in a small, cheap clock radio.

The GPA crossovers are probably better sounding/cleaner than the (unrestored) originals anyways (new caps, etc.)......

My computer speakers were built by this company called Altec Lansing. Some of you may have heard of them. I actually feel like a traitor owning and using these but I bought them when I bought my first computer back at the very end of the 90's (yes, I was very late to jump on the computer bandwagon)--many years before I joined this forum. I had no idea back then that they weren't "real" Altecs. Quite the contrary--at the time, I owned a pair of Valencias, a pair of Model 9's, and a pair of A7's and was excited that I could buy brand new Altecs for my first computer. Once I got them home I noticed I could coax some pretty good sound out of them (decent bass, mids, and h.f.--but only if I relied heavily on the graphic equalizer on my PC), but I did notice they sure didn't sound like the Altecs I already owned which didn't need much "help" to sound great! They were inexpensive, powered PC speakers with a decent sized sub-woofer included in the package. They still work like new, so I guess since they're bought and paid for, I'm keeping them.....

If posting these pics doesn't start a riot, how 'bout this question. Are these the P.C. version of the Voice of the Theater?

Probably shouldn't joke because it is sad that this kind of stuff is all that Altec produces today, but sometimes in life if we don't choose to laugh, we'll cry for sure......

Not to mention, we have GPA producing brand new "classic" Altec gear and parts, so there is a happy ending to the Altec Lansing story......

Cradeldorf--as far as someone having 604's hooked up to their computer and being able to tell from that Youtube video what your 604's sound like--tell them not even close. The built in mic on your video camera is your real bottleneck. I can hear a huge difference between "soundboard" audio on my PC speakers and something recorded with a built in "condenser" mic on a video camera....... I still enjoy your vids though--gives you a look at some great speakers in action and you can at least kind of hear them.....
